The Gift of Ramsey

At eighteen months, Ramsey was a seemingly normal toddler with a vocabulary of about sixty words. At twenty-four months, he had only three words and was completely non-interactive. The devastating diagnosis of regressive autism seemed to be a life prison sentence. Through intensive speech, social and drug therapies, Ramsey is now an active, bright and enjoyable boy of five-years old. He engages in appropriate pretend play, uses thousands of words correctly and has a great sense of humor. Although the expert observer can still detect unusual behaviors, his recovery and now near normal functioning after being so profoundly affected is truly miraculous. This miracle has served as the inspiration for the Veronica Bird Charitable Foundation, the sponsor of Ahead with Autism.
